There are many mysteries in the universe that in this cycle must remain mysteries to unascended man. Yet, man has often sought to decipher the hieroglyphs of cosmos, reaping partial returns from his endeavor, but seldom understanding in the fullest sense the vestments of Reality that are all around him.
May I ask for a moment of introspection wherein you carefully observe the power of Nature within yourself? Examine your physical body in all of its latent wonder. Consider the miracle of a tiny cell. How fearfully and wonderfully it was made! Recall the purity of the patterns Nature impressed upon your form as these were outpictured first in a tiny babe and then in the full-grown stature of a man or a woman. Now turn your attention to the consciousness that has occupied your form, at times passively, and then in a more active way as, with a new sense of participation in your own evolution, you have become tutored by the soul within. Verily, it is time to discover the depths of the wisdom and love that Life has sealed within your temple, that even now are shaping your cosmic destiny.
I come as a teacher of Truth to unlock the treasures that lie buried within your consciousness. Man has many teachers, yet none can compare to the One who extends that divine comfort whereby man becomes self-taught through the tutoring of his soul. The Eternal Spirit teaches His creation in many ways how to become engrossed in a higher form of reverie; among these, soul-tutoring is a unique experience.
Man learns thereby how to exercise his mind in a spiritual outreach of the imagination; and when he has mastered the art of penetrating cosmos, the universe is rolled open as a scroll in order that he might decipher the intricacies of Life. Mysteries he has not even contemplated are unraveled before his very eyes! By the same exercise he probes the unknown within himself, his behavior patterns as well as memories from the distant past that have often puzzled his mind. He learns how subconscious desires, like little coiled springs, do precipitate those acts, sometimes of distress and sometimes of joy, that produce a writing upon the pages of akasha.
Many of our students are overly concerned about their spiritual development, not knowing that their concern is the chief hindrance to their progress. The gentle faith that manifests in the performance of good works and in the belief that God will see to one's spiritual growth does indeed bear the fruit of progress in every area of one's life. For, in reality, God as the Eternal Spirit possesses the potential of man's evolution within Himself. How, then, can those who are striving daily to be His hands and feet be hindered by the suggestion that they are not making the proper spiritual strides? For to serve one's fellowman is to be one with Him, and to be one with Him is to progress.
Dear hearts, it is by leaving all progress to God and by simply drinking in the very atmosphere of Illumination's Flame that you will naturally increase the dominion of your consciousness. It is by using the faculties of the mind and soul to penetrate the intricacy and beauty, first of the physical universe and then of the spiritual universe within, that you will move forward in the fulfillment of your divine plan.
Man is more than a speck of dust. The Earth is more than a ball of mud, as some have said. It is a natural home adapted to the needs of its evolutions, even as the physical body is adapted to the necessities of the soul. Man need not grasp at straws, but he can grasp the poles of the universe to literally vault the heavens in an exercise in cosmic imagination.
What was true during my ministry is still true today: "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him." These "things which God hath prepared" must be sought and won by the man who - in contrast to those modern disciples whose spiritual muscles have become flabby - does not fear to exercise the faculties of the mind and spirit.1
This year we would impart new lustre through our words and designs to every lifestream who comes in contact with our consciousness, together with the blessed assurance that our strength is ever at the door. Some have felt limited by the outreach of their spirits, by their desires and imaginations which do not carry them beyond the confines of their physical consciousness.
Let me hasten to assure you that a call to your own God Self, to the indwelling I AM Presence, or unto me, Hilarion, will be answered by a quickening of your imagination and an outpouring of Light from the well-springs on high. Yes, my friend, there are, by God's grace, many in the higher octaves who are beckoning you to come up the ladder of Life so that you might begin to understand the potential of the soul that God has nourished within you.
You are aware of the many pulls upon the soul of man, in fact upon his whole psyche, pulls that originate in the chaotic conditions of the world as well as in his own subconscious mind. Mankind is looking to the world, with a promise that is mighty, for a fulfillment that is often so lacking that it seems to tarnish the Reality within him. Let him now turn to the grace of God and to those who are above him in a spiritual way. Let him become aware of them, that he may truly gain in stature and advance in the order of hierarchy.
Individuals have unwittingly stunted their own progress by aborting the creative imagination that God has placed within the soul. Many have imprisoned the splendor of God's grace that, if they would only allow it, would shine like a beacon from within. To cover that beacon, to hide it in a shroud of mourning, is to accept limitation in your outreach. Let man then realize that he has unlimited potential, let him call to heaven for an expansion of that potential in his consciousness. For in a very real sense every man is the keeper of his own lighthouse: either he hides the beacon within the self-centeredness of his being, or he opens wide the shutters of his life so that the inner Light can guide all men.
Mortals struggle to grasp the Light they know not of, flashing out their hidden strengths in puny outer-world activities. Their existence is almost a figment of someone's imagination, having a dreamlike quality of unreality. They feel boxed in, and well might they; for their souls are packaged in a synthetic society, and there is no way for them to express the great Reality that God is. But one day they shall burst the bounds of their confinement; and, with the stretching of the cosmic sinews, their entire consciousness will suddenly blossom into glory. Their minds will flex those hidden strengths and springs of heavenly joy that are within the spiritual body of every man, waiting to leap into expansion and progress in the Light.
Yet there remain in the world those concerns and involvements that, like sticky paper, are there to trap man in a round of worldly activities: the ownership of land and property, the maintenance of social status, the acquisition of power, and the manipulation of wealth. But all of these distractions are meaningless once man is able to perceive the boundlessness of God as "the day-spring from on high" that visits his outer self when he taps the inner strength of which we speak. But, unless man receives the messages telegraphed by the soul, how can he entertain other than mundane thoughts and ambitions, seeing that the soul is the screen upon which are imprinted those cosmic engrams of Light which lead the self into higher Truth?2
Even the imaginations of man's heart have often gotten him into a hornet's nest of destructivity; but once he is able to let go of himself and to surrender the ego that imprisons his soul, he can understand the Divine Intent with a greater measure of fiery inspiration. He can perceive a rail of heavenly potential, reaching from Earth to Heaven, guiding his soul through the trackless air to the beauties of higher spheres. Then, in the sense of a new beginning, he will start with the alchemy of self-examination.3
I long ago said, "Forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." In Heaven's Name, you, in reality, are not imprisoned! God Himself wills you free. Every Master, every Angel, every Cosmic Being works ceaselessly for the unfoldment of the divine plan for the Earth. But you yourself must develop the discipline, the steeling of your very mind and soul - the twenty-four-hour-a-day attitude of "pressing toward the mark." And if you do not, another will claim the prize that should have been your own.4
There is a vast need for creative men of vision and of science who will engage their minds in new thought and new action. It is well to remember the unborn in prayer and in planning; but, above all, do not overlook your contemporaries who, while enmeshed in worldly activities - the earning of a living, the reviewing of current books and plays, the seeking of new forms of sensual gratification - are very much bound in their finite consciousness to the stream of time, apprehending that one of these days in the not too distant future they will come to the end of their road. These, too, can be the sheep that must be fed, the flocks that whiten the hillsides, waiting to be called to a higher purpose.
You who look to the higher way of Life will understand that Life is destiny. This destiny you will desire to fulfill according to the traditions of the Masters, using the world for the mastery of self, not abusing it in the selfish domination of others. And you will let no outer condition become the bane of your spiritual existence that, like quicksand, will swallow up your constructive ideas.
Remember, beloved hearts of Light, in past ages humanity have dwelled in darkness, forgetting the glories of the Light from whence they came. To the one who does not know the way of the Light, let me say that the only means of finding it is to begin today to invoke it and to keep on invoking it until the road of Eternal Life rises before you, unfolding ever-new vistas of progress and challenges of discovery and attainment.
The Light liveth, the Lord liveth; and this year He is looking for the transformation of many new souls come from the darkness of worldly thought into the Light and freedom of His Mind. He waits with the dawn of a new age. He lives as your Eternal Creator and Friend. One day you will know Him as your Self; and thus in the imitation of the living God, through the Eternal Christ, you will become that which you already are.
As you evolve, remember always, I remain your friend,
