As mothers' hearts the world around tremble over the awesome things that happen unto mankind, as concern for the perilous nature of the war in Vietnam mounts, as men ponder on the total world situation, the great ministering lords of the sacred fire and the blessed angelic hosts continue their service, seeking to harvest from among men those souls who have deemed themselves worthy to be the recipients of the mercy of Almighty God.
I am particularly concerned that men and women shall understand that all of the mercy which God desires to express to the world does not manifest because the great releases of cosmic mercy are canceled out by the sturdy bearing of karmic law, which is the law of every man's being. You must understand, gracious ones, that God proposes to release the fullness of his great love to mankind - a love that cannot be measured, nor even properly treasured by those who do not yet fully understand the meaning of divine grace.
A great deal, if not all, of the misapprehensions of the world are the result of residual fear within men's beings. Early childhood impressions have taken their toll, and when they are not removed from the being of man by divine therapy and by the perfect attunement of the total being of man in all of his varied aspects, there is always the possibility that in an unguarded moment a surge to the surface of some imprudent record will bring distress to life.
Again and again I have witnessed how the angels of mercy will rush in to catch up each such spillover from the cup of life and try to create a state of harmony when individuals seem momentarily disturbed. So often mortals are not even aware of the outpouring of divine grace through the angelic hosts, for their eyes are not affinitized with the wavelengths of the "invisible" light radiations of these blessed servants of God. This ignorance of their existence does not stop the blessed angels from continuing to serve, for it seems to me that the less they are acknowledged, the more zealous they are in their attempts to make mankind aware of their presence so that they can bestow a greater measure of their service to life.
You do not know, O mankind, what it means to an angelic being who serves, to see a glance of recognition flashed forth from the lower octaves into their own; for they know, then, that there is an open door to divine grace and an opportunity through the mind and being of that individual to further expand the kingdom of heaven and its knowledge to mankind. Yet, I can truly say that they humbly serve even those who deny or even curse their very existence.
Unfortunately, some do not understand the fragility of spiritual law. It is so easy to break attunement with that which one cannot see or perceive through the normal channels of the senses. A mortal sneer, a "knowing" laugh, or a slur upon the person, are often all it takes before individuals retreat from a state of spiritual elation into what amounts to one of a rout of consciousness; and then they either enter into the veil of silence or they begin to feel that perhaps they did not, in reality, witness a spiritual manifestation at all. The presence of the physical senses in mankind, their testimony to things visible, and the boisterous cacklings of mortal men, often shatter the tender shoots of spiritual experience and prevent continuous seeing into the invisible world.
So frequently with the passing of the years, there comes a strengthening of intellectual bonds tethered to a blind society, and a view in retrospect which weakens the sweet affinity of the child for the heavenly world, once he has become a man and thus put away "childish things." Yet, the sweetness of grace to each soul is ever intensified at any age by true faith in the invisible world and the love of God, which is often so strong in a little child. The world is waiting with patience and hunger for the mighty sunrise that is a burst of cosmic mercy, restoring to each one that marvelous harmony that in childhood made the world to seem the miracle of life abundant. Yet, I know that it shall not come about, simply because men wish it so.
Again and again we have called for the manifestation of dedicated action on the part of mankind. The form of this action will spring forth in its own perfect order as it is evoked and nourished by the aspirant to Christhood. The words, "Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of heaven," were not inclined alone to the young in age and tender in years, but to every man and woman who have within themselves the pangs of spiritual hunger, and who yearn to be rid of the austere intellectual vanity which causes them to dip their feet into the pool of God-realization, and then withdraw them because there is a momentary chill experienced within their thought and feeling world, as the limbs of life recoil from the unfamiliar environment.
Gracious ones, the soul that now inhabits your body once lived in a realm completely foreign to its present state, but it did not hesitate to take the plunge into your flesh form, as the Angels of Birth beckoned it onward. You, then, should not now, while in embodiment and possessed with faculties to comprehend your immediate environment as well as the great visible and spiritual worlds around you, feel restrained in your desire to learn of that invisible world and its mighty laws which will give you the blessing of your eternal freedom.
In a few short years, the cycles of men's existence pass and they are thrust by nature's own compulsion out from the physical plane to varying levels of consciousness. Then as "the wind bloweth where it listeth," so does the spirit of man dash hither and thither unless met by the great Angels of Mercy and guided into schools of ascended master love, where the mighty spiritual teachers, such as your beloved Jesus and others, are able to show the way that will prepare mankind for a more victorious future upon their rebirth in the world of form. How wise it would be if individuals would perceive the schoolrooms of earth as God intended them to be, as places where life experiences can occur, be understood, and the victorious application made. It is always self-seeking and the vanity of the ego that exposes man to the tortures of misunderstanding.
Recognize, then, O mankind of earth, who long to raise yourselves into a more opulent state of being, that the golden treasures of heaven are yours for the asking, yet the proffered gifts of God must be accepted as the beauty of Christhood in manifestation. You cannot know the laws of God and then do despite unto your fellowmen; yet you need not be overtrodden by them, for there is in the Christ nature the magnificent example of submission unto the holy will ("Not my will, but thine, be done") which stands as cosmic staunchness to the minds of all men, regardless of their state of consciousness. They may not understand you, blessed ones, but there is much in life that they do not understand, least of all do they understand the mysteries of the kingdom. Be of good cheer, then, and know that the power of example is in itself an act of mercy which to all generations projects the image of infinite freedom upon the screen of life.
In the name of justice and mercy, we say, as Diogenes of old, who with his lantern went out in search of an honest man, mankind are looking today for the power of an honest example. Each precious deed of acceptance of cosmic law, each demonstration of divine tenderness, need not place you upon the rack of mankind's vanity or the thumbscrew of injustice, but in Christ-awareness as the power of the mighty example upon the hillsides of life.
It is true that the masters have ascended into their perfection, but it is also true there is need upon earth for merciful examples which shall be to all people a witness to the power of God in action in this present day. It is not enough for men to see the record of those who have gone before into the ascension: They are looking for your record today, as exemplary, as ideal, as light for the ages. In the name of cosmic mercy, let justice and mercy prevail in action among contemporary man.
