Disengaging Internal Sources of Power
Chelas of the Ascended Masters:
Introspection and assessment of one's self, when free from the grasp of self-condemnation, can providentially provide that necessary understanding which the twentieth-century man must have if he is to master his environment and simultaneously establish a spiritual fortress of power around himself. Even the method of trial and error is not to be despised by the aspirant on the Path if no better way can be found or is in evidence. Yet, the dictums of common sense and caution coupled with virtue should go hand in hand to effectively safeguard the use of so-called methods of trial and error.
Spiritual expansion need not necessarily be spectacular from the standpoint of outer manifestation; for the greatest progress often comes inwardly when men seem to be experiencing the greatest difficulty in assembling the apparently incongruous pieces of their own personality. When motives are withdrawn from the cloister of the subconscious mind and examined in the noonday sun of clear-sightedness, men are often surprised at the intensity of their negative feelings. Let them recall that a spring tightly wound and placed in position between two stones is a depository of energy!
Mankind's current attitudes of repression - whereby because of social amenities and the desire to manifestly embody virtuous qualities, individuals sometimes suppress their feelings and hide them even from themselves over prolonged periods, often without the outer mind's awareness - are often causative of personal confusion in consciousness and lead to a lack of communion between people and even with the Higher Self. For hidden feelings do begin to cycle and revolve within the subconscious nature of man and soon exert a disquieting effect upon the harmony of consciousness. One of the negative catalysts that initially cause this revolving of negative emotions below the level of the consciousness is the feeling of frustration which comes to individuals unless they faithfully stand guard during an interval period when the life plan and desire which they would externalize do not materialize in the manner or speed that they expect. For this reason the Wise Masters of the East have often repeated, "In thy patience possess thy soul" - consciousness.
It is a part of Holy Wisdom, then, whether the goals be outward ones or of higher spiritual attainment, that men realize that the key to self-mastery comes about through disengaging the internal sources of power from petty forces warring directly within each individual's own personality. Any form of inner schism is of course usually rejected by the outer consciousness, which tends to conceal the truth of what is known in psychiatry as a "split-personality," or schizophrenia. Mild forms of schizophrenic tendencies may manifest even in very learned individuals. Yet, it is true that in more illumined individuals these tendencies are often effectively concealed in a most subtle manner, whereas in the ignorant they tend to be arrogantly displayed in seasonal tantrums and periods of depression.
Inasmuch as the human psyche in this current age has become more and more a battleground for these discordant forces to dissipate the energy of individuals, which in social intercourse frequently brings about distrust and violence, it is Our suggestion that the astute students of the Light, who seek to be perfect outposts of Ascended Master Love, will take periodic stock of themselves and their hidden motives and draw them to the surface point of recognition in the conscious mind and then call for the transmutation of all such subtle and hidden negation.
Ascended Master students are intended to represent a higher aspect of Life; therefore, if the lifewaves of spiritual devotees in this age are to crest to the floodtide of Golden Age Victory, it must be through self-mastery, hard won or otherwise!
